Even though the TV’s box has a big “Dolby Digital” logo, and marketing specification claim DD, this TV cannot output DD 5.1 audio when using its ATSC or QAM tuner. I don’t know how Sony can get away with this, promising something but not delivering it.

Don’t listen to the complaints about the auto-dimming feature because it is no longer an issue. Sony released an update that allows you to choose low, medium, high, or NO auto-dimming. If the auto-dimming annoys you then you can go into the settings and turn it off. My TV came with this update already installed on it.

Customer Review: Wonderful HDTV Ready for the Internet
We first bought a 40W4100 and then that night saw the new Sony 40Z5100 on Amazon.com for about $200 more than the older and lower model. So we took the W4100 back and ordered the 40Z5100 and got it before the end of the same week. We love this HDTV. It was simple to set up, and fortunately had the ethernet connection close by. It has great over-the-air HDTV reception (and will easily do if cable goes out) and had no problem with the Comcast HDTV DVR tuner. Unbelievable clarity, color and accuity. No problem with screen reflection next to large windows. And styling is simpler than comparable Samsung with their “Touch of Color”.

After months of research, I decided to go with sony because it seemed to be the most reliable. I could not have picked a better television. I have a sony blu-ray and a sony surround sound system. The three of them compliment each other better than I could have ever expected. The tv in HD is absolutely beautiful. I see other tvs that are supposed to be comparable, and that just is not the case. This tv stands alone in this class of televisions. Samsung is close… but it’s not SONY. In case you haven’t noticed… I highly recommend this television
